About this guide
Narvik Tourism is an independent travel guide to Narvik in northern Norway, the Ofotfjord and the Ofoten Line up to the Swedish border. It is written by Patrick Kühne, a travel publisher based in Germany who also runs guides to Kiruna, Abisko and Lofoten.
Not the official tourist office
This site has no connection to the municipality of Narvik, the port, LKAB or any tourism body. The official destination company is Visit Narvik AS, registered in Narvik at Kongens gate 39, with its website at visitnarvik.com. It runs the tourist information offices in Narvik, Ballangen and Kjøpsvik; the one in Narvik is in the town centre, in the same building as the war museum. For events, local services and anything that depends on decisions made in Narvik, its pages have the last word.
Many tickets in town are sold by Norway's Best, a private company that runs the booking pages for the Narvik gondola and the Narvikfjellet ski area and also sells tickets for the Arctic Train and the war museum. The Arctic Train itself is run by The Arctic Train AS at Narvik station. It is not the tourist board either. Where an experience has no tour on this site, such as the gondola, lift passes or train tickets to Sweden, we link straight to the operator.
Where the facts come from
Population figures come from Statistics Norway, history from Store norske leksikon, Lex and Britannica, and port figures from LKAB. Gondola and ski dates come from Norway's Best, opening hours from the Narvik War Museum, the railway from Store norske leksikon, Visit Narvik and the Swedish transport authority Trafikverket, and the roads from Statens vegvesen. Sun and twilight times are from the US Naval Observatory. Each page lists the sources it relies on. We checked them against the original pages on 23 October 2026.
Where sources disagree, for example on the length of the Arctic Train trip or the number of ski runs, we follow the operator or the responsible authority, or leave the detail out. Dates that are still open, such as the exact opening day of the new gondola in January 2027, appear on the site only as far as the operator has published them.
How the site earns money
Tour cards and comparison tables link to GetYourGuide. When you book through these links we receive a commission, and your price stays the same. Prices, ratings and review counts come live from the booking platform. We do not write them.
We are not a tour operator and do not sell tours ourselves. Questions about a booking, a cancellation or a refund go to the platform or to the operator named in the table.
How tours are chosen
A tour appears here when it starts in Narvik or picks you up there and fits the topic of the page. Some start further away, such as the husky kennel at Isogaisa, about half an hour north with no transfer, or the snowmobile ride in Bardu, and the pages say where you need to be. We leave out pure transfers, tours that start in Kiruna or Abisko, and tours whose guest reviews are clearly weaker than the alternatives. Duration, pickup, age limits and what is included come from the tour pages. When the platform stops listing a tour, it disappears from this site automatically.
Photos
The photos come from Unsplash and Pexels and illustrate the town and the activities. Captions describe only what the picture shows and name the photographer. Some pictures were taken elsewhere in Norway or abroad, and in that case the caption does not name a place.
